NETFLIX FILMS 2023: THE 15 BEST AND ANTICIPATED PREMIERES
New works from Wes Anderson, David Fincher, Bradley Cooper and more fill the Netflix 2023 movie calendar. Which one are you most looking forward to?
Netflix movies in 2023 once again demonstrate name power and appeal, with directors like David Fincher, Wes Anderson and Bradley Cooper showcasing their new work on the platform and stars like Gal Gadot, Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Hemsworth, Emily Blunt and more offering pure star power to your productions. Although we still have time to recover some of the best movies of 2022, we don’t want to waste a second and here we have compiled the most anticipated 2023 Netflix movies, from those that could have a chance at the 2023 Oscars to those that aspire to reach the top. top of the podium of the most viewed productions in its history. As with the most anticipated Netflix series of 2023, the movies look promising on the platform’s calendar.
With Disney+ gaining more and more strength (you only have to look at the powerful releases that it accumulates in the list of the best recent movies on Disney+) and the streaming wars wreaking havoc on platforms like HBO Max (although, despite its problems, brings together a good collection of good and current movies on HBO Max), it seems increasingly important and more complicated to create an offer that attracts viewers and can be measured with other competitors. For this reason, the Netflix 2023 films are once again surrounded by the best names in Hollywood (and also nationals with some of the most anticipated Spanish films of 2023) and some of the fruits of these associations will be seen next year.
Movies like ‘Maestro’, directed and starring Bradley Cooper as the revered conductor Leonard Bernstein, and ‘The Killer’, David Fincher’s new film after the series ‘Mindhunter’ (one of the best Netflix original series) and the Oscar-winning ‘Mank’, are at the top of their bulky calendar, which we have made up in this list of titles already announced and with a confirmed (or probable) release date among Netflix 2023 movies. There is no shortage of names like Tom Ellis, who will star in a romantic comedy after saying goodbye to ‘Lucifer’, and Keanu Reeves, who will adapt his own comic ‘BRZRKR’ on the small screen, which could easily be one of the most anticipated action films of 2023.
New projects will also arrive this year as a result of the agreement between Netflix and the brothers Joe and Anthony Russo (responsible for messing with the chronological order of the Marvel movies in ‘Avengers: Endgame’). While we await more details on the sequel to ‘The Invisible Agent’ and its derivatives, the brothers have a new film in the works starring Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven in ‘Stranger Things’) and which will also be released in 2023. Which of these new releases of Netflix movies in 2023 do you want to see more?
‘The crimes of the academy’

Release date: January 6, 2023
The 2023 Netflix movies started the year strong with ‘The Academy Murders’, starring Christian Bale, and which was released in theaters in December, so we could also count it among the best Netflix movies in 2022. Now strictly streaming, we’re naming it Netflix’s first big movie in 2023. Based on the novel by Louis Bayard, the story is set in the 1830s and follows a detective trying to solve West Point murders. For this he will have the help of a young man who, over time, would become the great Edgar Allan Poe.
‘People like you (You people)’

Release date: January 27, 2023
Kenya Barris’s new comedy lands on Netflix in 2023 with a spectacular cast: Jonah Hill, Lauren London, Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sam Jay, Nia Long, David Duchovny… A recipe for success. The story is an exploration of modern love through a couple and their respective families, who experience culture shock, social expectations and generational leaps. Netflix Movies 2023 has long-awaited comedies like this one.
‘Your house or mine?’

Release date: February 10, 2023
What a couple united Netflix: Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon star in this romantic comedy that arrives just in time for Valentine’s Day. The story follows two completely opposite friends: she wants to follow routines with her son in Los Angeles and he enjoys living from day to day in New York. What if they exchanged their houses and, incidentally, their lives? Noventero aromas for this title that joins the best love movies on Netflix.
‘Luther: Night Falls’

‘Criminals in sight’

Release date: March 31, 2023
With the first installment becoming a notable success on the platform, it was clear that these two were going to return: ‘Criminals at sea’ returns with a sequel, titled ‘Criminals in sight’, again starring the funny Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. What mystery will they have prepared for us this time and how much will they make us laugh from our living room? If the title ‘Criminals at Sea’ stays, does that mean we’ll get back on a luxury yacht?
‘The Mother’

Release date: May 12, 2023
Jennifer López leads this action thriller directed by Niki Caro, who was in charge of the live action adaptation of Disney’s ‘Mulan’. The actress thus intensifies her presence in the cinema, now streaming, allying herself with Netflix to bring out her most warrior and athletic side after starring in films like ‘Wall Street Scammers’ and ‘Marry Me’. The film follows an assassin who, when she discovers that her long-abandoned daughter is in danger, she comes out of hiding to protect her as she runs from some very dangerous guys. Thus, the singer will have a double helping of streaming action in 2023 with the already announced ‘Shotgun Wedding’.
‘Tyler Rake 2’

Release date: June 16, 2023
With a script by Joe Russo (half of the tandem made up of the Russo brothers, responsible for Marvel movies and the recent ‘The Invisible Agent’ on Netflix), the sequel to ‘Tyler Rake’, ‘Tyler Rake 2’, will reunite us with the character played by Chris Hemsworth in a new action-survival adventure. We expect adrenaline, explosions, shootings and much more. We expect, wow, one of the best action movies on Netflix, or at least at the level of the first installment. The cast also includes Adam Bessa, Tinatin Dalakishvili, Patrick Newall, Dato Bakhtadze, Rayna Campbell and Tornike Gogrichiani.
‘Tyrone’s Clone’

Release date: July 21, 2023
With Jamie Foxx, John Boyega and Teyonah Parris leading the cast, ‘Tyronne’s Clone’ is a science fiction comedy directed by Juel Taylor that will delight fans of the genre with a great sense of humor. The story follows an unlikely (and delusional) trio who investigate a series of horrifying events that could lead them to the secrets of a terrible government conspiracy.
‘Heart of Stone’

Release date: August 11, 2023
Netflix will distribute this production by Skydance Productions, which has already been defined as «the female version of James Bond». The one in charge of embodying this imposing role is none other than Gal Gadot, star of ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Fast and Furious’, who returns to the action genre with a cast made up of Jamie Dornan, Sophie Okonedo, Matthias Schweighöfer, Alia Bhatt, Jing Lusi, Paul Ready and more. With a script by Greg Rucka (‘The Old Guard’, also from Netflix) and Allison Schroeder (Oscar nominee for ‘Hidden Figures’), ‘Heart of Stone’ is an international spy thriller. The official synopsis is still unknown.
‘Damsel’

Release date: October 13, 2023
Pay attention to this: Millie Bobby Brown plays a young woman who is thrown into the jaws of a dragon and who will have to fight for her survival in a fantastic world. Are you also looking forward to seeing it? This will be ‘Damsel’ (which we imagine refers to the expression ‘Damsel in distress’ or ‘Damisela in distress’), which will be directed by the Spanish Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. The cast already includes Angela Bassett and Robin Wright.
‘Pain Hustlers’

Release date: October 27, 2023
Acquired by Netflix at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, and with its sights set on a 2023 release, ‘Pain Hustlers’ may become one of its most talked about releases, and not just because it stars Emily Blunt and Chris Evans ( who has recently been seen on Netflix with ‘The invisible agent’). The production has been compared to other titles such as ‘The Big Short’, ‘The Great American Swindle’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’. Directed by David Yates (who led the last few ‘Harry Potter’ films) and loosely based on an interactive article published in The New York Times in 2018, the film follows Liza Drake (Blunt), a woman who didn’t finish her studies and that she dreams of a better life for herself and her little daughter. So she lands a job at a failing pharmaceutical company in a shopping mall, and her drive and hard work catapult the company and her to great success that will lead to a criminal conspiracy with deadly consequences.
‘The Killer’

Release date: November 10, 2023
David Fincher found a good ally in Netflix, who helped him bring to life the project written by his father, ‘Mank’, which has become one of the best films of 2020. That’s why it’s not surprising that he repeats: the director will present ‘The Killer’ in 2023, an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name created by writer Alexis Nolent (or Matz) and artist Luc Jacamon. With Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton as protagonists, and Fincher’s meeting with screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker (with whom he worked more than twenty years ago on ‘Seven’), ‘The Killer’ follows, according to the official synopsis, «a a lonely and cold man, methodical and free of scruples or regrets, a murderer who waits in the shadows for his next target» and who «the longer he waits, the more he thinks he is losing his mind, or at least his calm». In short, «a brutal, bloody and elegant ‘noir’ story about a professional assassin lost in a world without a moral compass.»
‘Leave the World Behind’

Release date: December 8, 2023
Sam Esmail, creator of the television series ‘Mr. Robot’, brings together Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke in a luxury cast (and with several Oscars) for the project ‘Leave the World Behind’. From Netflix they have only advanced that the protagonists will face a world that is falling apart. And yes, be careful who is in the executive production of the film: nothing more and nothing less than Barack and Michelle Obama.
‘Rebel Moon’

Release date: December 22, 2023
Zack Snyder returns to Netflix with ‘Rebel Moon’, which was shot in 2022 so that this year we can enjoy it on the small screen. It is a space opera in the style of ‘Star Wars’ that has in the cast with Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi and Sky Yang. ‘Rebel Moon’ will be an epic fantasy adventure film with influences from Akira Kurosawa. The story presents us with a peaceful colony on the outskirts of the galaxy that gives a young woman the responsibility of forming an army with warriors that can prevent a possible invasion of the despotic Regent Balisarius.
‘Teacher’

Release date: 2023
After making his directorial debut in the Oscar-winning ‘A Star Is Born’, Bradley Cooper repeats with ‘Maestro’. This is a biopic of the legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein, who composed the music for ‘West Side Story’, and will be brought to life by Cooper himself as the protagonist. Yes, this one up here, the one in the photo, is him. One of the most amazing transformations of the year? With Carey Mulligan also in the cast playing Bernstein’s wife and Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese as producers, ‘Maestro’ follows the life and work of this musical theater legend through «the complex love story of Leonard and Felicia, a story that spans more than 30 years, from the moment they met in 1946 at a party and continues through two engagements, a 25-year marriage and three children.»
